During the winter months, the attraction decorates for the season with Christmas decorations and a large collection of Santa Claus figurines. In addition, the carousel is illuminated with more than 20,000 lights and 182 chandeliers.

Can you ride the carousel?

House on the Rock is a dazzling creation of collections, displays and galleries built in 1960 by Alex Jordan. Located between Dodgeville and Spring Green, it is one of Wisconsin’s most popular attractions.

It’s a smorgasbord of exotic artefacts, quirky curiosities and eccentric objects that defy description. It’s not only a fascinating experience but an incredibly unique place to visit in America.

There’s so much to see and do at the attraction that it’s hard to take everything in on your first visit, but we recommend giving yourself at least 2 hours to check out the entire place. You can start at the introductory museum and information area before heading to the quirky cottage-core goals of the real HOUSE that Alex Jordan built up and around a chimney of rock in scenic Southern Wisconsin.

Once there, you can wander through Streets of Yesterday (like the photo below), or explore sections like the Galleries and Music Room. There, you can drop a token in a coin box and hear music machines playing Bolero or Love Theme from The Godfather (though these instruments are actually automated). You can even make your way through the Infinity Room, which is essentially a giant chandelier that extends an awe-inspiring 218 feet.
